
Looking to take a dip on a rooftop pool with a skyline view? Austin is the seventh-best vacation spot for rooftop swimming, according to a Roof Gnome study.
The ranking was based on comparisons of the 500 biggest U.S. cities with factors including accommodations with a rooftop pool, consumer ratings and average sunshine, among eight total metrics. In other words, access, quality and climate.
Austin, who ended up with an overall score of 53.08, was outranked by Dallas, who came in sixth with a score of 53.99. Other Texas cities that made the list include:
- San Antonio, 9th place
- Houston, 13th place
- El Paso, 38th place
- Frisco, 58th place

Top 10 overall best cities for rooftop swimming
Miami Beach, Florida took the overall best at first place, with Los Angeles, California taking second and Miami taking third. The rest of the top 10 included:

How Austin ranks in access, quality and climate
Austin came in a fourth-place tie with New Orleans, Louisiana, for the most top-rated accommodations with rooftops as well, according to the data.
Austin’s scorecard ended up as:
- Access rank: 7
- Quality rank: 5
- Climate rank: 382
The four big Texan cities that made top 20 overall — Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston — all made the top ten for access and quality, although the climate in the state can become an issue if accommodations lack shaded spots.
